Vyas House
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, India
2012 -- 2015
Situated in a new suburban area outside the Fort, the Vyas house is located on a south facing plot, enclosed on three sides by other residences. The restrictions are overcome by a design responding to climate and inspired by the traditionally built dwellings of the old city. Fifty per cent of the floor area on the ground was kept open to catch the prominent south-west wind, enabling natural light and air to breathe into the spaces wrapped around the central courtyard with their openings facing each other. Like most other traditional buildings of the city, the Vyas house is built yellow stone sourced locally and is adorned with carvings swarming over the front facade
