Silver Ring -- CEPT Library Light

Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India

2018

The recently completed library on CEPT Campus contains much more than books. As the learning centre and knowledge hub, it is intended to be used in multiple ways by students and faculty. Artificial lighting plays a key role in enabling space to be used differently, particularly where much of the usable study areas are below ground. The architect provided for general lighting however there was a need for numerous areas to be provided for in a focused matter.

Our response was to develop luminaries that created pools of focused light inviting readers to occupy those study areas. It was also an opportunity to celebrate wonderful spaces that had been created. Powder-coated steel and translucent acrylic contain LEDs. Some of these rings of light shine in both directions and others are mono-directional according to the need of the space.
